Tech Info May Not Lead to Tech Solutions

I thought I might explain our big trip. We enjoy long car trips. To this point, our longest adventure was a trip to and from Alaska. That trip took approximately three weeks. The present trip is planned for twice that length.

We are heading south. This makes sense for folks who have no other commitments and live in the great white north. We attempt to learn while we travel and we will attend educational technology conferences in Florida and Texas. We also listen to podcasts, read books, and explore our tech toys during the time in the car.

Today's tech experience was interesting, but not anticipated. We installed an Ecobee thermostat in our home in the woods of Wisconsin. The thermostat connects to the Internet and we can do things like turn up the heat from our phone before we arrive. Quite useful. On the road today, the Ecobee sent us a notice saying that it had been requesting heat for several hours without a response from the furnace. We signed in and found the temp was falling and heading toward the "freeze the pipes" danger level. This situation does present some challenges which have yet to be resolved. Tomorrow we hope to call for help.

The Ecobee provides some interesting data. The red line indicates the requested temperature and the green line the actual temperature. Turning up the temp proved futile as can be clearly observed in the chart appearing above. You can see the problem as it emerges. Luckily, the weather has been pretty warm for Wisconsin. Perhaps the sun will warm the cabin in the morning.

In other news, we drove 500+ miles today and should reach Orlando in time for the opening sessions of the tech conference.
